Insufficient production of sebum causes dry skin and also often dehydration, which is not quite the same condition. Dehydrated skin qenerally lacks moisture (even oily skin can be dehydrated). The lack of sebum in dry skin diminishes the skin’s ability to retain moisture, so dry and dehydrated skin often come toghether. Dry skin most often looks delicate, thin and fine, with tiny pores. lt’s affected by sun, wind and rain and therefore wrinkles easily. A lot of protection and moisturizing to maintain it well is needed. Sensitive skin is usually fair and delicate, and shares the same needs as dry skin.
Check the condition of your skin to make sure you choose the most appropriate skin-care products.
The best essential oils for dry skin are german chamomile, roman chamomile, rose otto, rose absolute, geranium, lavender, neroli, jasmine and sandalwood. For sensitive skin, essential oils include rose otto, rose absolute, melissa, neroli, helichrysum (also called ‘everlasting’ and ‘immortelle’), german chamomile and roman chamomile. When caring for sensitive skins, always use a very low percentage of essential oil, for example 1% or 0.5%. If any reaction occurs, stop using that particular essential oil.
